A 220V 40kVAr Static Var operates based on the principles of reactive power compensation. Reactive power is the power that is alternately absorbed and returned to the power system by inductive or capacitive devices. Static Var Generators (SVGs) are used to regulate the reactive power in an electrical system and maintain a power factor close to unity.
Here's a general overview of how a 220V 40kVAr Static Var Generator works:
1. Control System: The SVG consists of a control system that monitors the power factor and reactive power requirements of the system. It adjusts the SVG's output to match the reactive power demands of the load.
2. Energy Storage: The SVG typically contains an energy storage component, such as a bank of capacitors. This energy storage helps to quickly absorb or release reactive power as required by the load.
3. Power Conversion: The control system analyzes the reactive power demand of the system and regulates the SVG's output accordingly. It controls the power electronics devices—such as insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs), thyristors, or other semiconductor devices—to convert the electrical power into reactive power.
4. Reactive Power Compensation: When the load requires leading reactive power (capacitive), the SVG injects or supplies reactive power to the system. It does this by adjusting the voltage and current waveforms in a way that cancels out the reactive power component. The reactive power can be adjusted continuously or in discrete steps as per the system requirements.
5. Power Factor Correction: The SVG continuously monitors the power factor of the system and adjusts reactive power injection to maintain the power factor close to unity (1) or as per the desired target.
YTPQC-SVG Static Var Generators are used for perfect Power Factor Correction for applications where fast response is required, or need both inductive and capacitive reactive power compensation. Where capacitor banks can get your power factor to 0.95 efficiency, SVG systems can achieve 1 and react instantaneously so there is no delay to the load corrective action.
